Standby Generators

Important Information

A standby backup generator can keep you on your daily routine without missing a beat.

A double-throw or transfer switch has to be installed to separate it from the Horry Electric System. The switch must be equal to the current rating of the electrical service in your home and not the rating of the generator. For instance, if the electrical service of your home is rated for 200 amps, the switch must be 200 amps. This needs to be installed by a licensed electrician.

If you have decided that a standby generator is the right decision for your home, please contact a Member Service Representative at 843-369-2211. A Generator Release of Liability form will need to be signed. We will then schedule a service technician to disconnect the service at your home for the generator to be installed. A $40 service fee will be added to your next statement.

An Horry County power permit number may be required to reconnect service after installing a standby generator.
