Start Residential Service

Requirements to Connect Residential Service

  • A credit check for every new account.
  • One-time payment of a $5 membership fee, $10 application fee and $20 connect fee.
  • Unpaid or past due balance on another service must be satisfied before connecting a new location.
  • Service will not be connected for a tenant if the landlord owes a debt at the same location.
  • A signed membership application.
  • One of the following that applies to your account:
    • Signed Purchase: Copy of Settlement Statement with Service Address shown
      • If the building is a mobile home, a copy of the Certified License Application form indicating that the license fee has been paid to the Horry County Assessor’s Office is required.
    • Signed Rental: Copy of Lease Agreement with Service Address shown
  • Power permit information may be needed.
  • Decide which account type you prefer.
  • Past meter nor account history will be given until a rental or purchase agreement has been received and application for service accepted.

All meter bases connected to the Horry Electric Cooperative System must meet certain specifications in order for power to be connected.

Post Pay (Monthly Bill)

  • Post pay members are charged monthly for electric use.
  • Bills are sent monthly and are due on the same date each month.
  • Statements can be mailed or emailed.
  • A security deposit may be required if determined by credit check.
    • Deposits must be paid in full prior to connection of service.
  • Accounts disconnected for non-payment for six consecutive days will change to inactive status and the member will have to reapply and provide updated documentation.

Advance Pay (Prepay)

Advance Pay Residential Members have the opportunity to prepay for electricity when they want, and in the amounts they want.

  • Prepay for electricity.
  • Advance Pay members are required to begin with a $50 credit balance, in addition to the $35 initial fees.
  • The account is charged daily for use from the previous day.
  • There is no monthly bill.
  • The daily charge is deducted from the credit balance on the account.
  • Member-controlled account alerts allow the member to manage their account electronically and pay on a schedule that is convenient for them.
  • The electricity stays on as long as there is a credit balance.
  • Service will be disconnected if there is no credit on the account.
  • Accounts disconnected for non-payment for six consecutive days will change to inactive status and the member will have to reapply and provide updated documentation.
  • Disconnect/reconnect fees, late fees, nor a deposit is required.
  • The rate is the same as a post pay account.
  • The member must bring the account to a $10 credit balance to generate a reconnect if the account is disconnected for lack of funds.
