Sign up for Bank Draft, get entered for a prize drawing!

BankDraft(131-b)

Horry Electric is working hard to encourage participation in our FREE Bank Draft program with a limited time offer to new participants.  “A member who qualifies and gets successfully signed up as a Bank Draft participant between April 1 and 11:59 PM on April 30, 2020, will be automatically entered into a prize drawing for one of ten $50 electric bill credits,” says Danny Shelley, executive vice president and CEO.   The bill credits will be awarded to the winning entrants on May 1, 2020.   Contest rules are outlined at the bottom of this blog post.

The Bank Draft program makes paying your electric bill easier. “You can pay your bill on time, every time – without having to write a check,” says Shelley. “It’s the easiest, safest, most convenient and least expensive way to pay your electric bill”.

When a member signs up, Horry Electric will begin automatically drafting the checking or savings account for the amount of the monthly electric bill the following billing period.”You’ll still get statements showing the kWh use and the amount due, but you won’t have to write a check, come to the office, or pay a visit to the night deposit box after hours,” explains Shelley, adding that the amount due is drafted on the bill due date.  “The other big benefit,” he continues, ” is there are no convenience fees!”

Please note that it may take a few days to process a request, so continue to pay the bill until “Bank Draft” appears on the statement you get in the mail.

The limited-time offer is for NEW participants only and Advance Pay participants are not eligible to participate.  The contest rules are outlined below.

The best way to sign up is to visit MyEnergy Online. “We will be creating a couple of videos to demonstrate how to sign up via mobile app or desktop and we will share those as soon as they are ready,” says Shelley. Members may also call Horry Electric during regular business hours at 843.369.2211 to learn more about getting signed up.

Co-op returning $3 million in capital credits to members

Capital CreditsNot many businesses pay you for buying something you wouldn’t want to live without, but electric cooperatives do!

This year, members of Horry Electric Cooperative will be receiving a portion of the capital credits assignment for 2003, 2004 and/or 2019.

The allowable retirement this year is $3,542,770.07 less $500,000 in estate payments. The total amount being distributed is $3,042,770.07, which includes the $1,203,283.67 balance of 2003, $1,537,486.40 balance of 2004 and $300,000 of 2019.

  • If you were a member in 2019, you will receive 1.34% of your 2019 assignment.
  • If you were a member in 2003 or 2004, you will receive the remaining unretired balance of your assignment for that year.

Capital credit disbursements are made by the end of April. Due to the expense of processing and issuing checks, members with refunds in amounts less than $25 will see a credit on their electric bill.

All refunds below $25  will be credited to the accounts of eligible active members when the account bills in April.

Members can calculate the approximate amount of their 2019 allocation and disbursement by using the chart shown below. It was designed to help members calculate and estimate what their capital credit check or electric bill credit might be.

Remember to #ThankALineworker in April

Lineworker Appreciation Day pic for blogLineworkers serve on the frontlines of our nation’s energy needs, and on April 13, 2020, Horry Electric, along with other electric cooperatives across the country, will honor the brave men and women who work hard to keep the lights on. We will also celebrate National Lineman Appreciation Day on April 18.

Line crews work 24 hours a day – 7 days a week – 365 days a year. They work around the clock, sometimes in difficult and dangerous conditions, to keep power flowing to our local communities. Whether they’re restoring power after a major storm or maintaining critical infrastructure to our electric system, lineworkers are at the heart of our cooperative.

When a storm hits, they set aside their personal priorities because Mother Nature doesn’t work around holidays, vacations or birthdays. A service-oriented mentality is one of the many admirable characteristics of an electric lineworker.

Horry Electric is proud to honor over 60 lineworkers that maintain over 5,200 miles of power lines across our service territory of Horry County.

To honor them, Horry Electric will be posting some of their faces across our social media platforms! You’ll see pictures of our linemen in their work atmosphere, but you’ll also get to see some fun pictures! Lineworkers are truly a group of people who genuinely love what they do.

We invite all co-op members to take a moment and thank a lineworker for the important work they do. As much as our lineworkers would love to give you a high five or a fist bump, we ask that you keep social distancing in mind during the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, honk your horn the next time you drive past a line crew working or roll your window down and yell “hello!”

On April 13 and April 18, you can use #ThankALineworker on social media to show your support for the brave men and women who power our lives.

Look for three inserts in April bills

IMG_3341
Before you toss the contents of your April billing statement in the trash, be sure to pay attention to the information inside.

When you open your Horry Electric bill statement during the month of April, be sure to pay close attention to the contents.  Inside, you’ll find three very important communications.

“We’re not sure in what order they’ll be inserted, but they are equally important,” says Danny Shelley, executive vice president and CEO.

One of the items is a reminder that everyone needs to participate in the 2020 Census. “This is critical to us in South Carolina because the results can have an impact on growing communities by providing funding for after school programs, food assistance programs and much more,” says Shelley. “By making sure we’re all counted, we have a better chance of getting what we need from the Federal Government when they distribute funds to the different States.” The results of the Census also help determine how many seats we get in Congress. “It also creates jobs and helps fund emergency services, builds schools, roads and housing,” he continued. Census information is confidential. For more information, visit 2020Census.gov or call 1.844.330.2020 (English) and 1.844.468.2020 (Spanish).

Another insert is the Current WordIt features some important details pertaining to our 2020 Annual Meeting of Members, which is scheduled for May 12, 2020. “We may have to end up postponing the meeting, but we believe the information in the newsletter is something members can use, regardless,” says Shelley.

One side of the publication features convenient options for members to pay bills, including the HEC Mobile app, MyEnergy Online and the Local Pay Stations made possible by Conway National Bank and Anderson Brothers Bank. “The only thing that isn’t valid in our current business operations is in-person transactions in our office lobbies,” he continued, adding that drive-thru windows in Conway and Socastee are still open.

91444040_10159510046102538_7640755877670027264_nThe third insert is an invitation to Let’s Stay Connected during the COVID-19 crisis. “In addition to serving as a reminder of the many different ways for members to connect with their cooperative, it is reassurance for members that we are continuing to monitor the crisis and we are adjusting our sails accordingly,” says Shelley. “We rushed to put this special insert together to call special attention to  things put in place for members by the board of trustees for the month of April.”
