Horry Electric Cooperative, Inc. was organized April 24, 1940 with 627 charter members. Today, the Cooperative serves more than 68,000 active meters through 24 substations across more than 4,900 miles of distribution line in Horry County.
Of the 20 electric cooperatives in South Carolina, we are the fourth largest. Since 2002, Horry County and Horry Electric have experienced tremendous growth, making us #1 in terms of annual meter growth.
As a not for profit, member-owned corporation, Horry Electric is dedicated to providing its members with the best service at the lowest possible price. A nine-member board of trustees, elected from and by their fellow members at the Cooperative Annual Meeting, governs the activities of the Cooperative.
The board names the chief executive officer, who in turn is responsible for appointing the management staff that operates and maintains the system. Horry Electric Cooperative's Chief Executive Officer is James P. "Pat" Howle.
